He is one of only 3,500 professional communicators nationwide to have earned the coveted Certified Business Communicator (CBC) designation from the Business Marketing Association (BMA). Designed and managed Public Relations and Sales Promotion activities for clients including Moctezuma Imports, Inc., Irvine, CA, Cerveceria Moctezuma, S.A., Mexico City (brewers of Dos Equis, Tres Equis, Superior and other beer brands). Clients included: Brizard Company, the county's largest landholder and commercial developer; Bien Padre Company, regional snack food/ tortilla manufacturer; BayleySuit, Inc., nation's largest producer of custom scuba diving suits; Del Norte Box Company, national marketer of redwood plant stakes; Environmental Technology, Inc., national manufacturer of Envirotex liquid polymer consumer products; and Pilot Rock, Inc., nation's largest marketer of educational aids incorporating U-2 and satellite imagery.

Vice President-Public Relations and Division Chief, Cochrane Chase, Livingston & Co., Inc., advertising, marketing, public relations firm, the largest in Orange County.

Founded public relations division of the firm on October 1, 1969. Managed division as a successful profit center, ultimately supervising 10 professionals, until resignation to move to Eureka/Arcata, CA (to write books) on October 1, 1975.

Designed and managed annual public relations programs for clients including AMF Voit, Inc. (sporting goods); Technicolor, Inc . (color film processing/products); Carl's Jr. Restaurants (quick service food); Mission Viejo Company (residential and planned city developer); Weldwood (glue and building materials); and dozens of other consumer and industrial clients. CCL&C's Public Relations division received the "PRISM" top award in April, 1975, from the Los Angeles Chapter of Public Relations Society of America for the most outstanding public relations marketing program in Southern California. (Produced 70 full-page or larger articles for Martin-Decker Company in a one year period and the $60,000 cost more than paid for itself in first-call sales alone.)

Personal Business Experience

Founder, China Wall Trading Company. This firm has two functions:

    (1) matches U.S. firms with Chinese ones for trading purposes, and
    (2) sends groups of U.S. businesspeople to China on seminar tours to 1993:learn trade there first hand.

1990-1993: Co-founder, Koelzer Travel China Tours. This firm conducted sight-seeing groups to China. Koelzer has visited China 21 times.

1982-1987: Co-owner of Travel Representatives, Inc., group travel, incentive travel, cruise and vacation specialists, Huntington Beach, CA. This firm sent thousands of persons and hundreds of groups to China and other countries over ten years. Responsibilities included marketing, planning, sales, advertising and new business development. Was one of only 1,000 persons world-wide invited to attend the first China International Tourism Conference, Beijing, March, 1982.

1978-1979: Founder and owner, Gold Rush Ice Cream Parlor, Arcata, CA. This ice cream parlor, the county's most elegant, realized a 30% increase in sales during its first five months of operation. The business was sold June 4, 1979.

Co-founder/co-owner, Melanie Kareem School of Dance, Eureka, CA. This dance school, the region's best known and largest, taught disco, aerobic, tap, jazz and belly dancing. It showed a 35% return on investment after its first six months. This business was sold in September, 1979.

Partner, Hitchcock & Hall Business Consultants, Arcata. This firm provides consulting in taxes, accounting, finance, general business practice, marketing, advertising, public relations, plus personal taxes and finance. Today, it has over 50 employees and is the largest firm of its kind in a five-county area.

Co-founder, "Christmas is For Sharing," a volunteer, non-profit county group that raises thousands of dollars each holiday season to feed hungry people and provide shelter for the homeless, 1984.

Co-chairperson of Orange County Committee for The End Hunger Televent, a 3-hour TV special, hosted by Jack Lemon , that aired in S. California in April, 1983.

In 1982, was Western Regional Manager of PR for The Hunger Project, a world-wide organization with 3.5 million members.

In 1981, was County Board Member of The Holiday Project U.S.A., dedicated to visiting persons sick, hospitalized, confined or alone on Christmas and Hanukkah.

Member, Board of Directors, Chamber of Commerce, Arcata. In 1979, chaired committee responsible for conceiving and presenting the first annual Northern California Fourth of July Jubilee. This area-wide event, sponsored by the Arcata Chamber of Commerce, has today become the State's largest July 4th celebration north of San Francisco.

United Way of Humboldt County . Member of 1977 United Way Communications Steering Committee. Conceived idea and chaired committee responsible for conducting a publicity workshop designed to aid the 25 county agencies that receive funds gathered by United Way.

Member, Board of Directors, Pilot Rock, Inc., Arcata. Was elected to board of directors because of marketing knowledge valuable to the firm's efforts. 1978

Koelzer's column, "Web Marketing for Realtors," appears monthly in several major real estate publications including the well known Broker-Agent chain of magazines. He is a major columnist for Agent News , a leading national real estate news service.
